On Wisdom Hill by Jason Allen : Lyrics

The Open Door
(Written by Jason Allen)

Ten thousand people only two can be strong
It's time to turn the tide, this feeling belongs
Come home to something but it's not that much
Could be another planet, losing touch

So you think you can be some one
Acting like you got the keys to the sun
So you think you got it all worked out
It's something like it but you've
Never come close
Just short of the post
Believe in the dose
We've seen the open door and we can run...

It's like the start but only half as clear
We're making headway but we're losing years
We got the magic but we ain't got the time
Too many broken places down the line

Unseen but we're still
On Wisdom Hill
We live long but seldom
See this life
Most of the time
Feeling just fine
We've seen it all before and now
We've seen the open door and we can go...

One too many times we've seen it all come down
Crashing to our feet before we leave the ground
They say it's out there, something to find
Voices on the line
But I don't reply
I leave it behind
It's a trick of the mind
Seen it all before and now
We've seen the open door and we can run...

So this is one last goodbye
To all the times we failed when trying to do
And if nothing comes along to replace it
Can you face it?
Can you face it?
Can you face it?
Can you?

"I wrote this near the end of the project over a period of a few weeks, gradually changing bits and letting it evolve. I'd like to redo this song one day with a Motown feel to it, get a brass section and give it some soul. The title of the album came from these words."
