Chances R >> Hurt You The First Time
(Jason Allen - 1992)

She said "Don't always read what you believe...
The man in the sky is looking out for me"
Freaked about the stranger's trust
Lost beside the scene that must....

Hurt you, hurt you
Have you ever had it shown to you
Hurt you, hurt you
Have you ever had it at all?

I believe in the ways in which I live
Seemingly trying to forget to forgive
The bell that strikes loudest
Is the one I fear the most
Floats through the walls, I know it must...

Under the door there's pockets of blue
Quit going 'round, she quits going through
There's a place and a thing for every time
But some of those things
Are never quite mine, and that...

Hurt you, I could hurt you the first time
Hurt you, I could hurt you the first time
Hurt you the first time, hurt...

Jason says...
"I find it hard to understand how it is that parents can force their own religion onto their children without ever giving them a choice in the matter. This was a sort of 'case study' about a person in that very situation who sees the light - in that she realises there's more to life than the God that has been chosen for her. I wrote this on my acoustic one Sunday at my Mum's house. The sun was beaming through the window and this came out in about 15 minutes flat."
