"
The death of Big Country mainman Stuart Adamson in late 2001 had a huge effect on me and caused me to reach for my guitar again.
I started playing a few different cover versions which lead me to writing a handful of new acoustic-flavoured song ideas. In the process I arranged the
Bluebottlegreen track 'Emerald' into an acoustic number.
For the first time in half a decade I was working on 'proper' songs again and I soon started to sketch-record these all-new creations.
I had planned to develop the ideas into full-blown epics but a few of my trusted friends told me to go with the rough and ready feel, hence this unplugged EP. Some of the songs were re-worked for
'Upstream'.
For the first time ever I put my
own name on the cover, not some dodgy pseudonym. I'd gone 'solo'! This was my creative renaissance!"
